Updates and pictures of how the club and the campus site has been developing
Key Dates:
|
June/July 2010
The clubhouse is painted, the kitchen installed and the clubhouse fitted out for use. We now have noticeboards for everyone's use for tennis related info, including the singles ladders and membership contact list and Karl's coaching. we have mirrors in both changing rooms but fortunately (for me, anyway) not full-length! We have taken delivery of plenty of chairs, cutlery and cups and carpet tiles to be used for the changing rooms and possibly the main meeting room too. We had our first 'home' Committee meeting in the warmth of our own clubhouse.
Although there are still many fixtures and fittings that we would like to obtain in due course, I'd like to thanks all contributors, including those contributing their time and muscle-power or vehicular aid to reach this stage.
Despite what the Council seem to think about the club being 'private' and not available enough to the community, this has been a genuine community project and is open to every member of the public in exchange for the modest membership rates given on this site.
The founders of the club are still responsible for a huge loan they have underwritten, however, so the club must be run as a business and not a charity. Without the modest income from membership and coaching rental, the club would not be here for very long.
May 2010
The toilets and showers will soon be installed and we will be able to have our first ever home match. Also this will be useful for Karl and his coaching classes, which will be able to use ther facilities and shelter from the rain.
April 2010
Construction of the wooden cabin of the clubhouse began in the first week of April. After some false starts, the roof went on at the end of April and the outside was completed, including the windows. The electrical and plumbing contractor was chosen. We have decided to have it painted a greeny brown colourto blend in with its surroundings and the backdrop of the rugby pitch.
March 2010
Work began on levelling and extending the area between the courts and rugby pitch to prepare it for the new 1,000 square-foot clubhouse due to be installed in Spring 2010. The clubhouse is scheduled to be installed - though it will still need finishing inside - this will take a little longer but should be in time for Summer league matches.
February 2010
We obtained several quotes from local suppliers to source the materials for the new clubhouse. These were compared and discussed by the Committee before deciding to give the order to Loghouse Ltd. They say the materials can be on-site within 6 weeks. We will organise a construction team through the contractors that laid the courts, as they did such a good job. They will be ready to initiate installation as soon as the wood arrives.
January 2010
The long-sought fire certificate has now been signed off and we have clearance that our slightly revised clubhouse layout is acceptable for fire safety. We will shortly look for the best value deal from local companies for building the clubhouse as soon as we can.
December 2009
We are sadly not yet in receipt of the necessary clearance for installation of the much-anticipated clubhouse, which is sorely needed by coaching classes and other members alike. But we look forward to a fully-functioning social club once the go-ahead is obtained and are planning a big welcome for the new facilities.
November 2009
We finally received confirmation that we had planning permission to install the clubhouse. Now all we needed was clearance from the fire authorities at Meath Council that the design was fully compliant with regulations and installation could be started.
September 2009
The date of 30th September we had set back in June as the likely date of installation of the clubhouse passed because queries were raised about the fire safety of the proposed clubhouse, which delayed the granting of planning permission.
May 2009
In May the courts were officially opened and we allowed general play on them for the first time. The surface was generally agreed to be very good and everyone began to look forward to further development of the site, including the installation of a 1,000 square foot clubhouse.
April 2009
In April the courts were laid and just the finishing touches were required to make the courts playable, including the completion of strong boundary fencing and secure gates.
March 2009
In March the team started work on the fencing for the courts, and perimeter pathway to the campus car park. Floodlight work was started with the erection of light masts. Week 3 Photographs.
February 2009
Week 1/2 saw the diggers move in and level the ground for our courts. Week 2 Photographs
From humble beginnings in September 2007...
